Senior Lecturer of Finance

John Nozell currently serves as Executive Vice President-Finance and Operations of Advion BioSciences, based in Ithaca. Since 2002, he has raised approximately $30MM of Venture Capital for the company, as well as senior and subordinated debt. He is also a Senior Lecturer in Finance at Cornell University's Johnson Graduate School of Management, leading the Managerial Finance Immersion Practicum and co-teaching IPO and M&A Transaction Structures. At the Johnson School, Mr. Nozell also serves as Faculty Advisor to the student-run BR Venture Fund. Prior to joining Advion in 2001, John spent two years on the management team of the Johnson School, where he was responsible for managing Career Services and Alumni Relations, as well as occasionally lecturing in Finance.

Prior to Cornell, he spent over 17 years in investment banking and corporate finance positions with The Chase Manhattan Corporation. While at Chase, Mr. Nozell held numerous positions within the firm's Global Investment Bank. From 1994-1999, he served as Managing Director and Regional Head of Chase's Airline and Aerospace Client Group, working with clients throughout Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Mr. Nozell joined Chase in 1982 as a corporate finance generalist in the Global Investment Bank, where he devoted his time to a wide variety of corporate finance and restructuring transactions. During 1990 and 1991, Mr. Nozell headed the Financial Analysis Group, where he was responsible for managing Chase's corporate debt/equity conversion opportunities arising from debt restructuring.

From late 1991 through 1994, Mr. Nozell managed Chase's Investment Banking business in New York State, specializing in mergers and acquisitions advisory and merchant banking transactions. In this position he and his colleagues acted as advisor to numerous "middle-market" companies which sought to divest of all or a portion of their businesses, and he assisted numerous companies in their capital raising initiatives.

Mr. Nozell has extensive experience in the area of restructuring and reorganization. He led the restructuring negotiations for the 1986 bankruptcy reorganization of Continental Airlines. Additionally, during his tenure as Head of the Financial Analysis Group, he oversaw the reorganization of more than 30 corporations and negotiated the terms for the equity securities arising from the restructurings.

During his career with Chase, Mr. Nozell was extensively involved in MBA and undergraduate recruiting with responsibility for a number of campus recruiting initiatives. He was a Team Leader for the Head Office Interviewing Team, and was involved in the MBA development process for many years.

Mr. Nozell received a BA from Colgate University and an MBA from Cornell University. From 1996-1999, he was a member of the Aviation Study Group, Linacre College, Oxford University and a member of the Aviation Working Group, formed jointly by The Boeing Company and Airbus for the purpose of standardizing international aviation commercial law. From 1993 to 1998, Mr. Nozell served on the Alumni Corporation Board of Directors of Colgate University, and is currently Co-chair of his 25th year Reunion Class Gift. He also currently serves on the Boards of Directors of Global Principal Finance Corp. (a Merrill Lynch Subsidiary) and the United Way of Tomkins County.

Mr. Nozell is married to Patti Takas Nozell (Colgate '81). They have three children, the oldest of whom, Melissa, will be entering the Colgate Class of 2010 this fall.
