Judges for the MBA Stock Pitch Competition come from the top echelon of the investment industry and thus provide participating teams with an experience that simulates buy/sell-side meetings at prestigious firms. Thomas W. Baxter, CFA
Vice President and Business Manager, Global Equity Portfolio Management
As business manager, Tom works on a variety of strategic and tactical business issues within the Global Equity Portfolio Management group. In this role, he assists with the day-to-day management of the group and also represents the group in a variety of projects. Prior to joining GEPM, Tom worked with the Global Industry Research department for three years in a similar capacity. He has also served as a manager in the firm?s Special Projects Group, where he worked on projects ranging from evaluating new product opportunities to serving as a consultant to internal business groups. Tom also worked as the business manager for our Collateralized Debt Obligation (CDO) products where he coordinated the efforts of the functional groups involved with Wellington Management?s CDO Portfolio advisory activities. Prior to joining the firm in 2000, Tom analyzed bankrupt, distressed, and other highly leveraged companies for DDJ Capital Management, LLC (1997 ? 2000). Tom was also the head trader with TrendLogic Associates, Inc. (1995 ? 1997), and a portfolio assistant and trader with Eaton Vance Management (1993 ? 1995). Tom received his AB from Harvard University (1992) and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
Matthew Born
Managing Director of Research, Fidelity Management & Research Company
Matthew Born is a managing director of research for Fidelity Management & Research Company (FMRCo.), the investment advisor for Fidelity's family of mutual funds. Fidelity Investments is the largest mutual fund company in the United States, the No. 1 provider of workplace retirement savings plans and a leading online brokerage firm. Mr. Born assumed his current position in May 2008 and is responsible for the Small Cap and Financial Sector research teams of FMRCo.'s Equity division. In this role he manages eighteen research and portfolio management professionals.
Mr. Born joined Fidelity in 1992 as a mutual fund service representative for Fidelity Retail Investor Services. From 1993 to 1995, he served as a premium service representative. He left the company in June 1995 to pursue his MBA. In 1996, Mr. Born returned to Fidelity as a summer intern in the high income equity group. From 1997 to 2008, Mr. Born was a research analyst in the High Income division and was responsible for covering numerous industries including gaming/lodging, healthcare, cable/satellites and utilities. Mr. Born was also responsible for the High Income associate group from 2005 to 2008.
Born in 1968, Mr. Born received a bachelor of arts degree in American history from Hobart College in 1991 and received an MBA from Cornell University in 1997.
Jack M. Ferraro
Jack Ferraro retired in 2000 from Neuberger & Berman, LLC, where he spent 21 years as a money manager of individual and institutional accounts. He became a general partner in 1983, a principal when the firm converted to a limited liability company and a shareholder when the firm completed its public offering in October 1999. Prior to joining Neuberger, Mr. Ferraro was a portfolio manager at the Banca Del Gottardo in Lugano, Switzerland and a securities analyst with Oppenheimer and Company in New York and London. Mr. Ferraro received an A.B. from Dartmouth College in 1967 and an MBA with distinction from the Johnson School in 1970. He is also a Chartered Financial Analyst, having completed the program in 1977.
Mr. Ferraro sits on the Johnson School Advisory Council, and he is a past member o the Cornell University Council. He served for three years as president of the Johnson School Alumni Association and is currently a member of the boards of the Johnson School's Parker Center for Investment Research and the Cayuga MBA Fund.
Since 1985 Mr. Ferraro has held many positions on the Board of Trustees of the Hackley School (Tarrytown, NY) including serving as President from 1990-2000. He was made an Honorary Alumnus in 2004 and received the school's Medal of Honor in 2000. He retired from the Hackley School Board of Trustees in June 2009. In addition Mr. Ferraro served on the Blair Academy Board of Trustees from 1994-2000.
Mr. Ferraro's additional board service includes BMP Sunstone Corporation and the Sundance Institute. Regarding the former, he is Chairman of the Compensation Committee and also serves on the Executive and Audit Committee. With respect to Sundance, he serves on the Audit and Finance Committees. Mr. Ferraro is a member of the honorary board of the National Ability Center where he also served as President of the board.
Harry W. Lange
Portfolio Manager, Fidelity Management & Research Company
Harry Lange is a portfolio manager for Fidelity Management & Research Company (FMRCo.), the investment advisor for Fidelity's family of mutual funds. Fidelity Investments is the largest mutual fund company in the United States, the No. 1 provider of workplace retirement savings plans and a leading online brokerage firm. Mr. Lange currently manages Fidelity Magellan Fund.
Mr. Lange joined Fidelity in 1987 as a research analyst following the photography, office products and machinery industries. He managed Fidelity Select Automation and Machinery Portfolio (now known as Fidelity Select Industrial Equipment Portfolio) from May 1988 to September 1988. Later that year, Mr. Lange was named director of research for Fidelity Investments Far East, in Tokyo, where he analyzed the banking and automobile industries. Upon returning to the United States, he served as an equity analyst covering technology stocks, and managed Fidelity Select Computers Portfolio from 1992 to 1996, Fidelity Select Electronics Portfolio from 1993 to 1995, and Fidelity Select Technology Portfolio from 1993 to 1996. He managed Fidelity Capital Appreciation Fund from March 1996 and Fidelity Advisor Small Cap Fund from September 1998 until October 2005 when he assumed responsibility for Fidelity Magellan Fund.
Before joining Fidelity, Mr. Lange was a vice president at Wellington Management for two years. Previously, he worked as an associate for Idanta Partners from 1983 to 1984. Mr. Lange began his career as a co-op student working at the Chevrolet Motors Division of General Motors (GM) in 1970. From 1975 to 1981, Mr. Lange was a senior research engineer and engineering manager for GM. While pursuing his MBA at Harvard, he continued to work for GM on fellowship from 1981 to 1983.
Born in 1952, Mr. Lange received a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from the General Motors Institute in 1975 and an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1983. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst charterholder.
Shigeki Makino
Managing Director, Putnam Investments
Mr. Makino is a Managing Director and Head of Global Large Cap Equity. He is also the Portfolio Manager of Putnam Global Equity Fund and global core equity institutional portfolios. Mr. Makino joined Putnam in 2000 and is a member of the Executive Committee. He has been in the investment industry since 1989.
Thomas Sprague
Retired Portfolio Manager and Investor
Thomas Sprague has been involved with the stock market for the past 20 years. As an analyst at Fidelity, he was responsible for stock picks in a wide variety of industries, from technology to leisure to steel. As a portfolio manager there he managed up to $12 billion in several retail mutual funds and institutional retirement portfolios, emphasizing a growth style of investing. Although no longer at Fidelity, he maintains an active interest in stock picking, and helps out several not-for-profit organizations with their investment decisions in addition to actively running his personal portfolio.
Sprague's work experience includes sixteen years at Fidelity Investments, where he served, successively, as equity analyst, equity portfolio manager, and group leader; and eight years as an industrial engineer at Eastman Kodak. He serves as the finance committee chair for the board of managers of Sturdy Hospital in Attleboro, Mass.; the finance committee of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Chicago; and on the board of directors of the Covenant Trust Company in Chicago. Tom currently is an Executive in Residence at the Johnson School and a regular guest lecturer for the Cayuga Fund class.
Sprague earned his BS in operations research and industrial engineering at Cornell University in 1979, and his MBA in finance at the Wharton School in 1989.

Asher Anolic, Fidelity Investments
Asher Anolic, MBA '08, is a 2nd year analyst at Fidelity Investments covering regional banks. At Cornell, Asher was a sector portfolio manager for the Cayuga Fund responsible for technology companies. He spent his summer internship at Bear Stearns Asset Management covering companies within the small cap healthcare sector. Before business school, Asher worked for Thomson Financial as an investor relations consultant and for Herzog, Heine, Geduld as an assistant market maker. He holds a BA in political science from Vassar College.

William T. DeRosa
Assistant Vice President, Putnam Investments
Mr. DeRosa is an Assistant Vice President and Analyst on the international industrials team, covering the global transportation, engineering, and construction sectors. In this role, he is responsible for conducting fundamental analysis of the companies in these industries and making buy/sell recommendations. He originally joined Putnam as an M.B.A. intern in 2007, and re-joined the firm in 2008. Mr. DeRosa has been in the investment industry since 2005.
