Dr. Roger Vardan is the Managing Director of Strata-gems, an international management consultancy, which provides strategy consulting to leading companies around the world. His consulting practice and research interests revolve around the nexus between strategy and sustainability. Previously, Dr. Vardan directed global strategy for the Powertrain Group at General Motors, where he led strategy development in such diverse areas as value chain design, future of automotive propulsion and its implications for sustainable mobility, global business alliances, new product development and marketing. He also represented the company in the International Motor Vehicle Program. Prior to his tenure at General Motors, he served as the manager of the Systems Analysis Group at Battelle Memorial Institute, one of the leading think-tanks in the world. Dr. Vardan has been an active member of the Sustainability Consortium, consisting of progressive multinational companies collectively striving toward sustainability, and consults with the consortium's member companies. He also serves as a consultant to premier business organizations in India and Japan, and as a director for the Real Options Group. Over the years Dr. Vardan has been collaborating with world-renowned strategic thinkers, including Dr. Peter Senge of MIT, and Dr. Noriaki Kano of Japan, a pioneer in TQM and Chairman of the Deming Prize Committee. Dr. Vardan is a frequent speaker at many international conferences and leading academic institutions around the world. His most recent paper appeared in the Sloan Management Review. He volunteers for various organizations that advocate preservation of nature, welfare of young children, and teaching "systems thinking" to high school students.
