The Business, Engineering & Sustainability ("BE Sustainability") program supports multidisciplinary efforts to promote collaboration between engineers and managers for more effective creation, commercialization, and institutionalization of sustainable technologies.
Goals
- Prepare managers with a deeper understanding of the technical considerations necessary for more successful management of technology discovery and development.
- Prepare engineers with a deeper understanding of managerial considerations necessary for more successful technology commercialization and deployment.
- Help managers and engineers develop skills and abilities that allow them to work more productively and constructively with one another.
- Establish an active network of management and engineering academics, students, and practitioners interested in sustainable technology commercialization and venture creation.
Activities
In winter 2007, together with partners from World Resources Institute, Penn State, and Engineers for a Sustainable World, we organized a Research Planning Workshop supported by the National Science Foundation. The Workshop brought together 100 participants from management and engineering academic programs, as well as from companies and trade groups, to identify existing opportunities for collaboration in teaching, research, and outreach.
