Entrepreneurship and Innovation Institute Makes Strong Showing at New Orleans Entrepreneur Week

Johnson faculty and students from the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Institute are in the Crescent City next week, to participate in the 6th annual New Orleans Entrepreneur Week (NOEW). Rhett Weiss, executive director of the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Institute, is leading the delegation from Cornell’s graduate business school to the weeklong conference, which engages more than 5,000  business leaders, financiers, entrepreneurs, and MBA students through 56  events.

Among the highlights of the week—Weiss will lead a sold-out session before 175, titled “Entrepreneurial Deal Making:  David Meets Goliath,” on Thursday, March 27. In it, entrepreneurs, working only with an idea, will learn how they can successfully create and negotiate deals with “Big Players.”

Weiss will also coach the Johnson MBA team in the annual IdeaCorps Challenge. Team members will try to match the success of last year’s group, which won the competition, for its work with start-up beverage company Bissap Breeze. This invitation-only program, coordinated by The Idea Village, brings together students from top MBA programs, corporate volunteers, venture investors, and some of the nation's most accomplished entrepreneurs to collaborate, network, and contribute to the growing entrepreneurial community in New Orleans. The goal of the event is to help revitalize business in New Orleans, which is still recovering from Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath.

During New Orleans Entrepreneur Week, IDEAcorps teams from six business schools are paired with a high-impact New Orleans startup and work with them during to tackle a critical business challenge or leverage a strategic opportunity. The Johnson team will work with SNAP Real Estate Photography, a media-tech company that creates marketing content for selling real estate listings faster and at higher prices.

Team members, all MBA ’15, are: Annie Keyes, Dale Beard, Margaret Wu, Teresa Lee, Santiago Kegevic, Alan Barnes. They will compete against MBA students from  Haas School of Business, University of California Berkeley ; The University of Chicago Booth School of Business; Loyola College of Business; A.B. Freeman School of Business, Tulane University; and The University of Pennsylvania Wharton School.
