Johnson Team Bests Other Northeast B-Schools in Case Competition

A team from the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University has won the Northeast Regional GE Experienced Commercial Leadership Program  (ECLP) Case Competition. The Johnson team consisted of Melissa Carr Adeyanju (team leader), Brett Davidson, Josh Lapray, and Andy Shen, and was advised by Risa M. Mish, Senior Lecturer of Leadership and faculty director of Johnson’s Accelerated MBA Program. The Johnson contingent beat out teams from Columbia Business School, MIT/Sloan, Carnegie Mellon/Tepper, and Georgetown/McDonough. Teammate Andy Shen was recognized as outstanding presenter. The Johnson team won $3,000 in cash and guaranteed interviews with GE ECLP.

MBA teams were required to analyze a proposal for a GE online aviation platform designed to gather data about technical problems and other predictors of airline delays. As part of the case competition, the Johnson team had to outperform its competition in recommending development, monetization, regulatory, privacy, and partnership strategies for the platform. The case was complex and challenging, requiring the team to balance analysis, creativity, market knowledge, and communicative excellence.   

Many previous winners of the case competition have entered GE’s pipeline for sales and marketing leadership in the company’s various lines of business.
