Classroom Opportunities

One of the best ways to evaluate the skills and talents of our students first-hand is through our classroom opportunities. We have a number of ways to become involved that range from having our students visit your company as part of a trek, having a representative from your company come to Ithaca as a guest speaker, or advising a group of students on a consulting or immersion project focused on your company.

Immersions

These semester-long programs integrate case analysis, traditional lectures, team projects, and site visits—where students can solve real problems in real organizations. Immersions are offered in strategic product and marketing, strategic operations, investment banking, managerial finance, investment research and asset management, sustainable global enterprise, and digital technology. A custom option is also offered for those who wish to focus on an industry not covered by other immersions.

Treks

Each year student organizations make treks to major U.S. and international cities. Treks provide both an important educational function, introducing students to key industry trends and issues, as well as excellent networking opportunities. Treks are organized either by geographic concentration, industry sector, or a combination of both. Student clubs assume complete responsibility for setting the agenda and arranging visits, and the Career Management Center makes recommendations for employers and contacts.

In addition, as part of Johnson’s emphasis on performance learning, faculty arrange for visits as part of coursework and as a central component of our immersion programs. If your organization is interested in participating in a trek, please contact David Capaldi at (607) 255-9449 or dbc3@cornell.edu.

Corporate Projects

The number of Johnson students seeking and finding jobs in consulting is on the rise. Additionally, the number of students seeking jobs which provide opportunities to solve complex business problems is also rising. Johnson has developed several classes that offer opportunities to work on projects.

Projects offer a way for company representatives to work directly with Johnson students on issues that have real business impact. Opportunities for such projects are as diverse as the breadth of disciplines and classes offered at Johnson. You can see first-hand how our students solve problems, write reports, and present findings. For more information on these projects and to see sample projects, view the Corporate Projects page. For questions, you may contact Candace Maxian, Manager in the Corporate Projects Office, at cmm359@cornell.edu.

Guest Speakers

Participating in a Johnson class as a guest speaker provides an opportunity to both educate our students about your organization, as well as share your knowledge about the industry in a compelling way. Guest speakers are welcomed in nearly every class in both the first- and second-year programs. If you would like to learn more about being a guest speaker, or to connect with a faculty member about speaking opportunities in specific classes, contact Peter Krieger, at pk286@cornell.edu.
