Johnson connects with emerging markets of Africa for student talent
Recruiting trip to African nations supports Johnson’s goals of maintaining its stellar, diverse student body and increasing connections with the world’s emerging markets
In support of its global outreach and recruiting efforts, Johnson’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion will be hosting four recruiting events in Africa at the end of August. In partnership with UVA’s Darden School of Business, the tour will visit Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, and South Africa, and is being co-sponsored by Citi and SC Johnson. These countries represent the African nations which have the highest number of people taking the GMAT and GRE. This effort to attract students from Africa also aligns with the launch of Johnson’s Emerging Markets Institute (EMI), whose goal is to become a hub of global research, discussion and education on all issues related to conducting business in the world’s emerging economies.
“Our international students have always played a vital role in the breadth of education provided here at Johnson,” said Nsombi B. Ricketts, director of ODI at Johnson. “Increasing our African student population will naturally enhance our program by incorporating unique perspectives on the opportunities and challenges of doing business with emerging economies of Africa.” Ricketts expects this year’s trip to generate a great deal of interest in Johnson, that the school will be able to build upon for years to come.
