Preparations
Preparing For The Program
Students within the EMBA/MS Program come from a wide variety of professional and academic backgrounds within the healthcare industry. Several of you may have been away from a formal academic setting for some time. Due to the intensive learning format of the Program, we strongly encourage students to refresh and/or develop the foundational skills and knowledge needed to succeed within the Program. The list below can act as a guide for how to best prepare for your upcoming academic experience.
Activate Your Credentials
While enrolled in the EMBA/MS in Healthcare Leadership, you will have access to resources at both Cornell University in Ithaca and Weill Cornell Medicine in New York City. This includes digital credentials for both institutions so you may access the various online platforms needed to successfully navigate your student experience. The two sets of credentials are:
- Net ID
- CWID
You should receive an e-mail with activation steps for both – please activate these immediately.
Primary E-mail
You will be using your Weill Cornell (med.cornell.edu) account as your primary e-mail. You will be required to set up mail forwarding from your cornell.edu e-mail to your Weill Cornell e-mail account. To access your Weill e-mail, you may login via o365.med.cornell.edu.
LEARN Portal
The LEARN portal will provide you access to your tuition bill and payment methods. You may access this portal with your CWID credentials.
Refresh Your Quantitative and Writing Skills
We strongly encourage you to brush-up on your quantitative and writing skills by participating in refresher courses from Harvard Business Publishing. We have provided the following courses for you to help familiarize yourself and be comfortable with Program content – College Algebra, Spreadsheet Modeling (focus on the sections listed here), Finance, Statistics, and Writing in Business.
This is a fast-paced program, and we want you to feel you have the appropriate support, resources, and preparation as you enter the Program.
Click here to access the online course pack, create a student account if you do not already have one, and log in. The online course will appear as a course pack in your library. Click on “Run Course Section,” and it will launch in a new browser window.
If you have questions or run into technical difficulties, please call (800) 545-7685 or + 1 (617) 783-7600 outside the U.S. and Canada) or e-mail custserv@hbsp.harvard.edu.
Case Method
During courses throughout the Program, you will conduct case analyses to apply and practice learned skills and concepts. We encourage you to familiarize yourself with the case method in advance of the Program. Learn more about how you will use cases during your courses.
