Technology Requirements

Laptop Computer Requirement

All EMBA/MS students are required to own a laptop computer that operates in English. You will be using the Microsoft Office suite throughout the Program, so please ensure your computer is compatible to effectively run those programs. You can expect to use your laptop regularly to organize assignments, prepare and execute presentations, and communicate with fellow students, faculty, and program administrators. You will need your laptop for each Class Weekend and for each Residential Session.

While some students hope to streamline their computer needs by using their corporate computers for the Program, we strongly suggest using a laptop that is dedicated to the Program only. Oftentimes, computers that are configured to work networks encounter difficulties installing software and other issues that take copious amounts of time to address. As per ITS policy, the Help Desk Support Staff does not support computers configured to work on a company network.

Tablets

Tablets increase the accessibility of electronic course materials and we encourage having one at your disposal throughout the Program. While we welcome the use of tablets to access your electronic course materials, they are not a required device for the Program.

Tagging Your Devices for the Weill Cornell Network

Students have the option of tagging their devices through Weill Cornell. In order to access WiFi and other systems, as well as to receive technical support services, when on Weill premises, student devices must be tagged.Tagging your device will make it eligible for encryption, network connectivity, and full ITS support. Here is what is included in device tagging:

  • Remote and onsite support for most major hardware types.
  • Network connectivity to all major WCMC IT services.
  • Coordination of in- and out-of-warranty hardware repairs, as well as access to loaner/replacement hardware (in some instances). For hardware not provided by one of our recommended vendors, ITS can facilitate in and out of warranty repair within reasonable limits.
  • Disposal of computers, including erasing hard drives (provided by WCMC Environmental Health and Safety).
