As an MPS student, you’ll have access to career resources across the Johnson Graduate School of Management and the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business. In addition, students complete three Career Practicums designed to facilitate mentoring and networking opportunities, explore career pathways, and applied learning experiences.
Career Practicum 1 consists primarily of a series of career preparation events during the Fall academic term. Each event is focused on a different aspect of career readiness. Attendance at each event, subsequent reflection pieces, and other career related deliverables are all elements of the practicum.
Career Practicum 2 explores consulting as a career option. The course will introduce students to an analytical framework used by consultants, consulting cases, and strategic tools. In addition, several consultants and former consultants will speak in class about their careers and answer questions.
Career Practicum 3 is structured around an MBA course. Profiles in Leadership is Johnson’s premier platform for c-level executive speakers. Johnson has long attracted an impressive array of executive speakers; this course provides a streamlined platform for students to engage regularly with industry luminaries such as Irene Rosenfeld, David Einhorn, and others. Each session will begin with a presentation by the invited guest, followed by a robust discussion about the topics raised in the lecture as well as issues related to current events and other experiences of the lecturer.
The Career Management Office at the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business can guide you in developing a self-marketing campaign and a personalized career strategy based on your experiences and interests. Every student has their own career journey, and with the career teams’ guidance, you’ll gain the skills to focus your job search, ace your interviews, and launch a successful career. MPS students benefit from our one-on-one advising, group workshops, employer information sessions, expert speakers, and 24/7 access to our online resources such as Management Consulted, Careernomics, Exponent and Vmock.
MPS Director, Professor Eric Lewis, brings decades of academic and professional experience to MPS students. Professor Lewis, among other faculty members across the SC Johnson College of Business, is available to help students translate their interests into an appropriate course of study and offer support for students’ academic and personal development.
