Commencement weekend ’11 celebrated the accomplishments of thousands of Cornellians

It was Johnson’s 64th and Cornell University’s 143rd, yet for those who received degrees this past weekend, it was simply an amazing and exciting experience

This past Memorial Day Weekend, Dean Joe Thomas of Johnson lauded the achievements of more than 500 new MBAs and PhDs along with their friends and families.  In addition to ceremonies for Johnson at Cornell University students, festivities included a convocation address by former New York City Mayor, Rudy Giuliani and, at the main Cornell University ceremony that recognized the milestone reached by more than 5000 Cornell University graduates, an address by President David Skorton.

Speeches were forward thinking and powerful.  Dean Thomas recognized the powerful choice students made in seeking an MBA when they did.  He praised the class of 2011 for taking control during an uncertain economic time and investing in their knowledge bases and marketability.  At convocation, Giuliani spoke about the importance of remaining optimistic and the need for tomorrow’s leaders to take time to prepare with patience and due diligence.  President Skorton celebrated the accomplishments of the graduating class and welcomed them to their newest roles as members of a dedicated and nearly-300,000 member strong alumni community.
