Johnson Brings Top Researchers and Teachers to its MBA Programs
New dean and four others join the faculty in several disciplines
The Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University welcomes five new faculty members for the upcoming academic year, one of whom is its new dean. New faculty also include an assistant professor, a clinical professor, and two senior lecturers.
Soumitra Dutta joins Johnson as the Anne and Elmer Lindseth Dean and professor of management. He previously served as the Roland Berger Chaired Professor of Business and Technology and founder and academic director of the eLab at INSEAD, a top-ranked graduate business school in Fontainebleau, France. Dutta is an authority on the impact of new technology on the business world, especially social media and social networking, and on strategies for driving growth and innovation by embracing the digital economy. He is the co-editor and author respectively of two influential reports in technology and innovation the Global Information Technology Report (co-published with the World Economic Forum) and the Global Innovation Index (to be co-published with the World Intellectual Property Organization). Both reports have been used by several governments around the world in assessing and planning their technology and innovation policies.
Hyunseob Kim, assistant professor of finance, comes to Johnson from Duke University, where he completed his PhD in finance in May 2012. His research focuses on empirical corporate finance, labor economics, and corporate governance.
Lourdes Casanova joins Johnson as senior lecturer of management. She is an expert on emerging markets, with a focus on Latin America, as well as on emerging multinationals, and women in business in Latin America. Casanova previously served as lecturer in the strategy department at INSEAD. She earned a PhD in Philology at Universidad de Barcelona, Barcelona, Spain. She speaks eight languages.
Allan Filipowicz, clinical professor of management and organizations, comes to Johnson from INSEAD’s Singapore campus. He holds a PhD from Harvard University in organizational behavior, an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, and from Cornell University, a master’s degree in engineering and dual undergraduate degrees in economics and electrical engineering. In 2007, he received INSEAD’s “Best Teacher Award.”
Drew Pascarella spent 15 years working at bulge bracket investment banks, prior to joining Johnson as senior lecturer of management. Most recently, he was a director in the Technology Investment Banking group at Citi, focused within the Communications Equipment sector. While at Citi, Pascarella advised clients on over $35 billion of merger-and-acquisition transactions, and led equity, convertible, and debt financing transactions totaling more than $9billion in proceeds. Pascarella will lead Johnson’s Investment Banking Immersion program. He earned his MBA at Johnson in 2001.
