Biography

Rob Symington is a Senior Advisor at Avenue Capital Group, a global investment firm with approximately $12 billion in assets under management.Previously he was the Senior Portfolio Manager for the Avenue Capital U.S. funds. Rob joined Avenue in 2005. In addition, Rob is a member of the faculty at Cornell University’s Johnson Graduate School of Management, having joined the faculty in 2014 as a Visiting Senior Lecturer in Finance.

Rob began his career at the Philadelphia National Bank. Following graduate school, Rob joined M.D. Sass (a U.S. investment firm) in 1992 as analyst in Sass’ distressed securities investment group. At the time of his departure from Sass, Rob was Chief Investment Officer for the Sass distressed securities Resurgence Funds.

During his career, Rob has participated as an investor and active distressed fund manager in a number of major restructurings including American Airlines, United Airlines, USAirways, Delta Airlines, General Motors, GMAC, CIT, Trump Casinos and NextWave Wireless Inc.

Rob is a board member of 2 private U.S. companies: NextWave Wireless (a wireless spectrum holding company) and CycloPure (a research company developing nano-pollutant and contaminent absorption technology).

Rob is a member of the Board of Trustees of Dickinson College and a member of the Advisory Counsel for the Cornell University Johnson Graduate School of Management.

Rob has an MBA from Cornell University’s Johnson Graduate School of Management and a B.A. in English Literature from Dickinson College.

Rob lives in Larchmont, NY with his wife Jane and their two boys Will and Teddy.
