What is First Generation?
The formal definition of a first-generation college student is a student whose care-givers or guardians did not complete a four-year college degree.
The formal definition of a first-generation college student is a student whose care-givers or guardians did not complete a four-year college degree.
At Johnson, we broaden the definition to include someone who is one of the first of one’s siblings in their family to attend college, complete a four-year degree, attend graduate or professional school, or those who identify with the first-gen experience (i.e., someone not having prior exposure to or knowledge of navigating higher education institutions, especially an MBA program).
The Office of Diversity and Inclusion partners with Johnson Student Services, Admissions, the Career Management Center, and Alumni Affairs to offer a variety of services and resources to support First Generation students throughout their journey with Johnson, from applicant, to current student, to alum!
