Robert T. Symington, MBA ’92

Rob Symington is a Senior Advisor at Avenue Capital Group, a global investment firm with approximately $12 billion in assets under management.  Previously, he was the Senior Portfolio Manager for the Avenue Capital U.S. funds.  Rob joined Avenue in 2005.  In addition, Rob is a member of the faculty at Cornell University at the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management, having joined the faculty in 2014 as a Visiting Senior Lecturer in Finance.

Rob began his career at the Philadelphia National Bank.  Following graduate school, Rob joined M.D. Sass (a U.S. investment firm) in 1992 as analyst in its distressed securities investment group.  At the time of his departure from Sass, Rob was Chief Investment Officer for the Sass distressed securities Resurgence Funds.

Rob is a board member of three private U.S. companies: NextWave Wireless (a wireless spectrum holding company), All-American Poker Network (an on-line gaming company) and CycloPure (a research company developing nano-pollutant and contaminant adsorption technology).

Rob is a member of the Board of Trustees of Dickinson College and a member of the Advisory Council for the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University.  Rob has a B.A. in English Literature from Dickinson College and an MBA from the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University.

Rob and his wife Jane live in Larchmont, NY with their two sons Will and Teddy.
