Application Requirements

Take note that you must choose your program of interest and apply to either the Executive MBA Americas program, the Executive MBA Metro NY program, or the Executive MBA/MS in Healthcare Leadership program. Each program is distinct and offers its own unique student experience and academic environment.

Take the time to research each program thoroughly. You should also take a look at our selection criteria for Cornell’s EMBA programs.

EMBA application checklist

Refer to this list as you prepare to apply to one of Cornell’s executive MBA programs. Detailed information and additional work experience and academic requirements are listed below.

Executive MBA admission requirements

Demonstrated progressive work experience

On average, our enrolled students have 12 years of full-time, progressive work experience. We typically require a minimum of seven years of experience. The admissions committees may consider candidates with fewer years of work experience; however, you should be prepared to demonstrate career progression. We take many factors into account to evaluate your work experience, such as post-residency experience for physicians.

An accredited undergraduate degree

An undergraduate degree from an accredited institution is required for admission to all three executive MBA programs. While you are not required to hold a graduate degree for admission, many of our EMBA students have master’s degrees in varying fields.

Additional information about application requirements

Below are detailed explanations related to portions of your executive MBA application. Please refer to the application checklist above for a complete list.

Very few organizations are structured alike, and an organizational chart provides helpful context about your work environment, managerial experience, and professional attributes.

Admission essays

Depending on the program you apply to, you will be required to write three or four essays that detail your candidacy and help the admissions committees understand why you’re a good fit for your program of interest.

Letters of recommendation

Applicants to all programs are required to submit two letters of recommendation.

Academic transcripts

Applicants must submit academic transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate institutions you’ve attended.

Standardized tests

Applicants to Johnson’s executive MBA programs are not required to submit GMAT, GRE, or EA scores, though you may submit your results if you have taken either exam.
