John and Dyan Smith Professorship of Management and Family Business
Margarita Tsoutsoura, PhD, is the first John and Dyan Smith Professor of Family Business and Management. In addition to her faculty role, she will serve as the Academic Director of the Smith Family Business Initiative. She studies family firms, empirical corporate finance, entrepreneurial finance, and financial intermediation. Her most recent research studies whether shareholders can discipline directors through annual elections mechanism. Her work on tax evasion was awarded the 2013 Wharton School-WRDS Award for Best Empirical Finance Paper. She received the Fulbright Fellowship and the WFA Trefftzs Award amongst other varied honors and fellowships.
Margarita Tsoutsoura earned her PhD in finance from the Columbia University, Graduate School of Business, her MSc in financial engineering from the Haas School of Business, University of California Berkeley, and her BSc in economics from the University of Piraeus in Greece.
