Bjoern Mitzinneck is a PhD student in management and organizations, expecting to graduate in May 2018. His research focuses on social innovation and novel forms of organizing for environmental sustainability. In his dissertation, Bjoern studies the development of novel organizing approaches enabling unprecedented community entrepreneurship in Germany's decentralizing energy sector. Drawing primarily on institutional theory, his dissertation research unpacks how alternative organizing approaches disrupt extant institutional arrangements and diffuse innovative solutions in a mature sector. It speaks to his broader research program on facilitators and hindrances for business-driven change towards greater social and environmental sustainability.

Prior to joining the PhD program at Johnson, Bjoern worked for a start-up winery in Stellenbosch, South Africa. He earned a BSc in Management and Economics from Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg, Germany and an MPhil in Strategy, Innovation, and Organization from Cambridge University, United Kingdom.
