2016 Judges

Boris Shepov, Research Analyst, Fidelity Investments

Boris Shepov is a research analyst at Fidelity Management & Research Company (FMRCo), the investment advisor for Fidelity’s family of mutual funds. Fidelity Investments is a leading provider of investment management, retirement planning, portfolio guidance, brokerage, benefits outsourcing and other financial products and services to more than 20 million individuals, institutions and financial intermediaries. In this role, Boris is responsible for researching companies in the machinery sector, and for presenting ideas to portfolio managers. In this capacity, he also manages Select Industrial Equipment Fund.  Prior to joining Fidelity in 2008, Boris worked as a summer associate at Barclays Capital in 2007, an associate at Withum Smith & Brown, PC in 2006, and as an analyst at Ingis & Company, PA from 2004 to 2006. He has been in the asset management industry since 2008.

Boris earned his bachelor of science and master of science degrees in finance from Kiev University of Trade and Economics, and his master of business administration degree in finance from the Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University. He is also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).


Kate Lakin, Assistant Director of Global Equity Research, Putnam Investments

Kate is an Assistant Director of Global Equity Research and an Analyst in the U.S. Large Cap Equity Research group, covering consumer staples, specifically packaged food. She is responsible for conducting fundamental analysis and valuation of the companies in this industry and making buy/sell recommendations. In addition, she oversees and manages the Equity Associate internship and fulltime program. Ms. Lakin joined Putnam in 2012 and has been in the investment industry since 2008. Ms. Lakin earned her B.A. from Wellesley College.

Steph Jackson, Director of Equity Research, T. Rowe Price

Steph Jackson is a director of research, North America, in the Equity Division of T. Rowe Price. Mr. Jackson is a vice president of T. Rowe Price Group, Inc., and T. Rowe Price Associates, Inc. He is a member of the Equity Research Advisory Committee and Equity Steering Committee.
Additionally, Mr. Jackson is the co-chair for the firm’s Ethnic Diversity Roundtable which identifies issues and opportunities relevant to talent, business practices, and culture in support of the firm’s diversity and inclusion strategy.

Mr. Jackson has 29 years of investment experience. Prior to joining the firm in 2007, he was a senior portfolio manager with Brown Capital Management, where he managed mid-cap and large-cap growth portfolios. Mr. Jackson also was employed by NCM Capital Management as a growth portfolio manager and director of equity research.

Mr. Jackson was a Morehead Scholar and earned a B.S. in business administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an M.B.A. from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. Mr. Jackson also has earned the Chartered Financial Analyst designation. He is a member of the Investment Committee of the France-Merrick Foundation, an executive Board member of the Baltimore Community Foundation, and a member of the Abell Foundation Board. He was previously the chairman of the Investment Committee of the Gilman School.

Thomas Spratt, Associate Analyst Team Manager, T. Rowe Price
Tom Spratt is a vice president of T. Rowe Price Associates, Inc., and manager of the equity associate analyst and research associate teams. He joined the firm in 1997 as a portfolio assistant in the U.S. Equity Division. In 2000, Tom moved to the position of research specialist providing fundamental research support to a number of investment professionals. In 2004 he added some managerial responsibilities and then in 2007 took over as manager of the associate analyst team. Tom earned his B.A. in economics from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County and has earned the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
